Migdal Ohr

The Foundation’s total contributions to Migdal Ohr surpassed the half million-dollar mark in 2016. Most notably, Foundation funds helped to build the Newborn facility of Migdal Ohr and provided financial support to the Hachnossas Kallah Fund.

Migdal Ohr “Tower of Light” was established in 1972 for the express purpose of providing education and social guidance to children from underprivileged and dysfunctional homes across Israel. Thousands of impoverished and at-risk youth — such as those from families in which drug abuse or involvement in crime has occurred – are currently being helped to obtain an education at all levels of the educational spectrum. Migdal Ohr’s goal is to transform these students into proud and productive citizens of Israel.

Migdal Ohr Daycare: Migdal Ohr has four daycare centers: Isaacs, Batya, Simchat Ohr and Mitzpe dispersed throughout the Migdal Ha’Emek campus. These day care centers are the daytime home to approximately 240 children. The children, from newborns to three year olds, come from families at the lower end of the socio-economic spectrum and are mostly from Migdal Ha’Emek and its environs. The centers also care for orphaned children living in our foster home village. These children are looked after by a devoted and caring staff and receive warm and fresh meals daily which are prepared in kitchens at each location. Each center has a playroom and a wide range of enriching activities such as movement, rhythmic music, a mobile petting zoo and yoga. These centers provide quality care and services for free or at a subsidized rate (depending on circumstance), and are designed to encourage parents to seek employment in an effort to increase the families’ long-term financial position.

Bridal Program, Salon and Hachnasas Kallah at Migdal Ohr:Many young girls enter Migdal Ohr psychologically scarred, without any means of emotional or financial support. Our caring and dedicated staff accompanies them through every stage of their lives, being there for all of their major lifecycle events.

The most exciting time is when the girls become brides. However, many brides-to-be do not have the means to pay for even the simplest wedding. Migdal Ohr’s Bridal Fund provides each former student with a beautiful, modest wedding, as well as the financial support so that the newlywed couple can set up their new household together with pride and dignity. Through this fund, each alumni wedding includes invitations, a ceremony and reception space, a modest meal, a photographer, and a one-man orchestra.

Additionally, each bride has access to Migdal Ohr’s Bridal Salon. Located on the Migdal Ha’Emek campus, this salon offers each bride the choice of a designer wedding gown and gorgeous jewelry and accessories. These gowns and accessories have been generously donated by boutiques and donors around the world. A professional seamstress alters the gown to the bride’s own measurements. On her big day, a team of caring volunteers provides the bride with professional hair styling and makeup so that she can feel beautiful and special on her wedding day. Thanks to the support from donors around the world, Migdal Ohr’s Bridal Fund currently sponsors over 120 alumni weddings each year!
